Lake Placid and Lake Lajoie Lake Placid and Lake Lajoie in Chickasaw State Park is eight miles from Henderson and provides year-round fishing opportunities. The lakes hold a variety of fish species, including largemouth and rock bass, bluegill, redear and green sunfish, carp, crappie, flathead catfish, bullhead, warmouth, and sunfish. The legal limits for bass and catfish are five, and the minimum length is 15 inches. The minimum limit for crappie is 30 with no minimum size. There is no limit or minimum length on bluegill. The boat dock on Lake Placid is open on Memorial Day through the first weekend in August and only on weekends to October 16. The park rents fishing boats at the boat dock throughout the year, even when the boat dock is closed. The Chickasaw State Park Visitor Center and the office are at 20 Cabin Lane in Henderson. 2. Lake Graham The 500-acre Lake Graham is only 20 miles away and teeming with blue and channel catfish, largemouth bass, bluegill, lake trout, redear sunfish, and crappie. Anglers who know these waters suggest using top-water lures in calm water to avoid making a noise or disturbing the water. You can buy a fishing license, tackle, and bait and rent a boat at the lake. The lake has a fishing pier, boat ramp, and fish attractors. Lake Graham is on Cotton Grove Road in Jackson. 3. Whiteville Lake About 31 miles from Henderson, Lake Whiteville offers 158-acres of prime fishing waters. The lake has a fishing pier, a boat ramp, and a picnic area. For bass fishing, those in the know suggest using single blade spinners in deeper water, willow leaf blades in clear water, and Colorado blades in murky water. The lake has fish attractors, and you can fish from the various places along the bank, the fishing pier, or rent and launch a boat at the ramp. There is a picnic area and restroom facilities. Brown's Creek Lake is on Brown's Creek Lake Road in Natchez Trace State Park. 5. Maples Creek Lake The 90-acre Maples Creek Lake is also in the Natchez Trace State Park and has a fishing pier, boat ramp, boat rentals, picnic area, and restroom facilities. It's a great little lake for reeling in blue and channel catfish, largemouth bass, bluegill, and crappie. Use fresh chicken livers, large nightcrawlers, or catalpa worms to hook catfish, especially during the may pre-spawn season and in November when they get ready for winter.
